They spend their careers developing and supporting other people.

But now it is time for three of the region’s top professionals to have the spotlight shone on them.

Here are the finalists in shortlisted for the HR, Recruitment and Training category at this year’s Birmingham Young Professional of the Year Awards.

Errol Lawson – has specialised in providing personal development solutions for 11-25 year olds through organised events, public speaking and coaching, helping them to recognise and develop their leadership skills for over 15 years,

He is Co-founder and Country Director for EMERGE Leadership CIC UK, a leadership development company with offices in both the UK and Ghana.

In 2010 Errol became a member of the British Council’s Transatlantic Leadership Network TN2020, and he is also author of “From the Postcode to the Globe – how to overcome limitations and realise your potential”.

Faye Pressly – is Associate Director at Mortimer Spinks, which works closely with some of the world’s best-loved brands, fastest-growing start-ups, and most entrepreneurial, innovative companies. Having been part of the expert technology recruitment team for over a year, Faye is passionate about technology talent, cloud and digital infrastructure, and women in technology. The latter of which is supported by Mortimer Spinks’ production of one of the industry’s most ground-breaking surveys on Women in Tech.

Ruqia Sharif – works for HS2 Limited and is used to the demanding world of HR. She joined the HS2 team from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), supporting with Human Resources and Facilities for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games . She also speaks four languages; English, Dutch, Arabic and Somali.

Errol Lawson, Faye Pressly and Ruqia Sharif only have four short weeks until they find out who will be crowned category winner, when BYPY16 takes place at Birmingham’s ICC on Thursday 12 May.

These finalists join a total of eighteen professionals who are in the running to win one of six categories; Property & Construction; Finance; HR, Recruitment & Training; Legal; Marketing & Communications; and Technology.

One of the category winners will also go on to win the coveted overall BYPY16 title, benefiting from a range of professional development opportunities, including a place on the Common Purpose Navigator course, designed for emerging leaders. This comes in addition to the Aspiring Talent and Inspiring Leader awards, which will also be given out on the night.
