Birmingham-based practice Associated Architects has made five internal promotions and unveiled a new identity as it approaches its 50th anniversary.

Existing associates Steve Townsend and Graham Hall have been promoted to associate director, Jonathan Davey and Tim Cornbill have stepped up to associate and Karis Cochrane is now senior architect.

Mr Townsend was named the Midlands Rising Star by the British Council for Offices at its recent awards and co-founded the Hidden Spaces initiative which has run in conjunction with the Birmingham Post.

Mr Davey and Mr Cornbill have been promoted in recognition of their work on projects such as Jaguar Land Rover's new Engine Manufacturing Centre near Wolverhampton and the University of Birmingham's library.

Mr Cornbill was also a double winner in the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards earlier this year for his photo of the German Chancellery building, in Berlin.

Ms Cochrane has been promoted in recognition of her work on a number of conservation and residential projects.

Associated Architects was founded in 1968 by three tutors at the Birmingham School of Architecture and now has 69 staff.

Its recent projects include Birmingham City Council's Woodcock Street offices and the refurbishment of the modernist Edward Boyle Library at the University of Leeds.

The practice also recruited city-based agency Orb to create a new logo and visual identity while Lightbox produced its new digital platforms.

Associated Architects director Matthew Goer said: "Associated Architects has had a record couple of years securing a number of new clients and a clutch of high profile awards.

"It's important for us to recognise the work of individuals in achieving this as well as ensuring we have the right team in place to guarantee our high level of service to both existing and new clients.

"The five team members we have promoted have proven themselves to be highly effective in their project work and contribute a great deal to the life and culture of the practice."
