Primark today announced that its biggest store in the world will open in Birmingham city centre on Thursday, April 11.

The news confirms the date BirminghamLive exclusively revealed 12 days ago on February 15.

Today we are publishing the first pictures of the new interior showing what the inside of the rebuilt former Pavilions shopping centre will look like.

Compared with the previous giant entrance hall of the former Pavilions, the ceiling lights look to be surprisingly low above the ground floor entrance of the new Primark.

But the store itself will be so big it will have almost 1,000 employees when it opens in just 43 days' time.

A Primark spokesperson said today: “We confirm plans to open our new flagship store in Birmingham, on April 11, 2019.

"The store, Primark Birmingham High Street, will be our largest to date and 187 in the UK.

How long has it taken to build?

Building the new store has taken as long as Brexit!

The Pavilions closed on 20 May 2016, just 34 days before the nation voted to leave the EU on June 23.

If Primark opens on April 11, that will be exactly 13 days after Britain is due to leave Europe behind - on March 29, 2019.
