The opening date of a new Sutton Coldfield restaurant has been announced.
Gusto Restaurant and Bar at Mere Green’s Mulberry Walk development will welcome customers for the first time on Thursday, November 30.
The Italian ‘casual dining’ chain is opening its second restaurant in Birmingham, joining its outlet in Colmore Row in the city centre.
More than £1 million has been spent on the Sutton restaurant with the restaurant recruiting 60 staff.
The 156-cover restaurant will occupy a 4,000 square foot plot and will officially open at 12noon on the final day of the month.
Among the dishes on the menu are pasta and risotto offerings, including classic spaghetti carbonara and Bolognese as well as the more unusual duck and sweet onion garganelli, lobster or beetroot risotto.
Gusto has meat and cheese deli boards, breads and nibbles including chill salt edamame beans and Gusto dough petals. A broad selection of starters including hand-rolled meatballs in a tomato sauce, crispy calamari and orange and honey glazed pork belly.
As well as pasta, the eatery sells pizza, 28-day aged premium steaks with garlic butter, roasted vine tomatoes and fries, hearty mains including seafood such as whole salt baked sea bass infused with lemon and Italian herbs, and baked fillet of salmon. It also has meat dishes such as lamb cacciatore – in red wine and herbs, served with charred sweet potato.
The venue also has an extensive wine menu, as well as a ‘make your own pizza’ children’s menu.
Work is now well underway at Mulberry Walk, which will see the building, transformed, complete with an outside terrace to seat up to 40 people.
Managing director of Gusto, Sue Crimes, said: “This is a very exciting time for Gusto! Our Birmingham Colmore Row restaurant continues to be tremendously successful and we felt the time was right to further expand within the suburbs of the city.
“Mere Green is the perfect location for Gusto. Mulberry Walk has transformed the local centre and has become the beating heart of Mere Green. In a short time the development has fast cemented its reputation as a high quality leisure location and we are thrilled to be a key part of that.
“Mere Green is a really exciting development for us. We believe our restaurant ethos clearly meets the demographics of area. The venue will be packed with aspirational touches that feel like home, a place where you can feel welcome and special that is perfect for so many occasions.”
Gusto launched in 2005 and backed by private investment from Palatine Private Equity in 2014 has led to rapid expansion of the restaurant brand. With the casual dining market growing, Gusto said it is well positioned for ongoing growth.
Sue added: “Gusto is an exceptional brand synonymous with premium dining and high-quality service set in stylish locations.
“Birmingham has been a critical part of our development plan and we are delighted to expand into Sutton Coldfield. We believe the success of our restaurants is down to excellent staff training, freshly prepared food and a great atmosphere.
“We also have a lot of loyalty from our customer base, thanks to our partnerships with local businesses and organisations and our exclusive Dining Club membership scheme.
“For Mere Green we really want Gusto to become a key location within local community. Community is at the heart of everything we do. Our General Manager, Matthew Kinnes and Business Development Manager, Claire Cecilia Peakman are both from Sutton Coldfield and will be hugely important in driving the restaurant forward.”
Gusto said it welcomes ‘families, foodies and those looking for a classic free poured cocktail from lunch until late’. ‘
Gusto currently has 18 restaurants across the UK with the Mere Green opening part of its ‘national expansion plan’.
