A new multi-million pound water park featuring amazing slides is being built just 30 minutes from Birmingham.

Coventry will be the scene of the new £36million aqua destination.

It features The Navigator - a waterpark version of a roller coaster which has both uphill and downhill drops in a tube - and a Speed Slide, with a thrilling drop of 20 metres.

A whirlpool style ride featuring a plunge pool also features, our sister title CoventryLive reports.

Each ride will be complemented by light and sound features for an immersive ride experience.

Alongside the waterpark there will also be a 25metre swimming pool, gym, squash courts, dance studio and day spa.

The next stage in the build involves creating the 25m pool and beginning the external cladding.

Opening is set for spring 2019.

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport , said: “I’m sure that many of our residents will be as excited as I am to see the next phase of the waterpark take shape with what’s arguably the most important part – the slides!

“The structure is up to full height now and it feels as if the work is really flying.

"The waterpark will be very best in the region – offering thrill seekers and younger children and families a fun filled few hours.

"And it will be open during our year as City of Sport – giving us two reasons to celebrate.

“The waterpark has been designed with the help of pupils at Westwood School and their input and valuable feedback helped us to ensure there will be a low level bowl area with activities for people with mobility issues.

"And the arrival of the slides means that we’re even closer to opening up the building to visitors and having fun on the slides and in the pool.

“We know that obesity and habits of inactivity begin in early life and we know that poverty impacts on how easy it is to be active.

"But we also know that being active boosts mental health, improves life chances and brings communities together and that’s what the water parkis all about – getting active and having fun.”
