Plans for a dinosaur-themed adventure golf course in Birmingham have been given the green light by the city council.

The new 18-hole attraction will be built at Wast Hills Golf Centre in Kings Norton with the proposals including models of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, volcano and giant octopus among other sculptures inspired by prehistoric times.

Birmingham City Council planning officers formally approved the scheme earlier this month (July).

The development is double the size of previous proposals which were put forward by applicants Universal Golf and Leisure in 2015, and subsequently approved.

A council officer assessing the latest scheme said: "The proposal is for an increase in size to an already consented adventure golf course (albeit expired) on an existing golf course located within Green Belt.

"It would provide an additional opportunity for outdoor sport and recreation in/next to the urban area.

"Considering the nature of the proposed facility and the projected increase in the number of visitors and activities at the club, I do not consider the size of the extension (above that previously consented) to be excessive with respect to green belt policy.

"The facility is a reasonably-expected enhancement of the club’s recreational package, and the income generated will support the wider sporting/recreation/employment function.

"I consider the scale of the proposed development (despite being larger than that previously consented) would be of a low form that would not compromise the openness of the Green Belt and would be appropriate to the character and function of the Green Belt."

Universal Golf and Leisure stated the original plans were 'too small to produce the desired consumer appeal'.

They want the crazy golf course to appeal to more young people and families.

Documents provided with the new planning application included images of the types of models likely to be introduced.
