This interactive show takes children and adults on a fascinating journey to explore the value of resources at a time when the world is experiencing a financial crisis.

Children’s theatre company Theatre-Rites has converted a former gym in Coventry into what at first seems like an ordinary bank – but there is something far more magical behind the scenes.

We step inside to witness customers coming through the door to try to get money. Several try a cash machine and fail only to see the face of the bank manager inside the cash machine posting the message “go away” through the notes slot. It does have a sense of Northern Rock about it as customers become exacerbated. But then they take drastic action and chase the bank manager through the building, with the audience following behind.

The five customers search for answers as to why they can’t access their money and the performance comes alive with puppetry, song and humour.

We then get taken on a journey through the building to discover the world’s most precious resources, each room a sensory masterpiece with installations which mesmerise both children and adults.

The interaction allows this to become as much a learning journey as it does an enjoyable theatrical performance.

Once we have weaved through the rooms we all congregate at the bank vault and inside is something truly magical. Children and adults are invited to make a wish as they drop pennies into an illuminated well, which triggers a special effect each time – from bubbles falling from the ceiling to changes in light and sound. It is an uplifting moment which drives home the motto every penny counts.

Bank On It is a beautiful piece of theatre which leaves you thinking about its important environmental message long after the performance ends.

The next show is on October 28 with daily shows until November 2.
