Organisers of the biggest music festival in the Midlands are preparing to celebrate its 10th birthday in style, by announcing a line up of some of the biggest names in rock and pop.

The Verve are set to return to the V Festival stage as they headline the two-day, twin-site event with Muse, which takes place on August 16 and 17 at Weston Park, in Staffordshire, and Chelmsford, Essex.

Troubled but talented Amy Winehouse hopes to atone for last year's no-show, while festival favourites The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs, and Kings of Leon will also perform.

Other acts announced today include former Stone Roses' frontman Ian Brown, Lenny Kravitz, Alanis Morrisette, The Charlatans, Chemical Brothers - and a rare festival appearance from The Pogues.

Younger music fans will be keen to see pop acts including Girls Aloud, The Hoosiers, David Jordan and Robyn.

Bob Angus, festival director, said: "We’re really proud of the V Festival line-up this year.

"A European exclusive performance by Muse and some truly fantastic established live acts mixed with some exciting newcomers will result in a cracking weekend."

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday on the following websites: www.vfestival.com, www.gigsandtours.com, and www.seetickets.com.

Weekend pass with camping costs £145, or £125 without camping, and day tickets are £70, all subject to an £8 booking fee.
