Two accomplished professional singers will join players from West Midlands community venture The People’s Orchestra for a candlelit performance of festive music.
The People’s Orchestra was set up last year in Sandwell as a charity project aiming to give everyone access to orchestral music.
The orchestra caters for players from all backgrounds and ages and has already performed a number of concerts in the region.
It’s now planning to hold the Christmas Music by Candlelight concert in Malvern, Worcestershire, on Sunday, December 8, at 1.30pm.
Professional soprano Sophie Pullen - who recently graduated with distinction from the Birmingham Conservatoire and has rapidly established a reputation as one of the rising stars of British operatics - will share the stage with award-winning bass-baritone Bozidar Smiljanic at the Malvern Forum Theatre with dozens of enthusiasts from The People’s Orchestra.
During the concert, the star duo will lend their vocal talents to celebrated pieces from Handel’s Messiah as well as helping The People’s Orchestra to raise the roof with a selection of Christmas carols and readings of Yuletide poetry.
Sarah Marshall, the chief executive of The People’s Orchestra, said: "Performing such celebrated classics in such a wonderful setting in Malvern will be a truly memorable event and a fitting highlight to the year.
"This concert will be The People’s Orchestra’s crowning achievement to date, and the addition of two highly-gifted singers, in Sophie and Bozidar, will complement the orchestral music beautifully and make this a Christmas concert to remember."
Tickets for the Christmas Music by Candlelight concert are available through the Malvern Forum Theatre, priced between £9 and £16, excluding booking fee.
