John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost forms the inspiration for a new opera to be premiered in Birmingham.

Seven Angels, written by British composer Luke Bedford, will be performed at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham tomorrow (Friday) before touring the UK.

The story follows seven angels who fall through space and time until they land in a desert landscape where they imagine the creation of a legendary garden that once flourished before its destruction from greed and neglect.

It is set in a post-Apocalyptic landscape created by Japanese artist Tadasu Takamine who is also featured at the city’s Ikon Gallery with a retrospective of his video and installation work. With a text by poet and playwright Glyn Maxwell, the work is a collaboration between The Opera Group and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
