A three-piece Birmingham indie band are having their music promoted on a world stage at MIPIM, the property and development event held in Cannes, in the south of France.

Student band The Scholars have released their debut album "Turbulence" and one of the tracks has been chosen as the backing music for a four-minute film on Birmingham's burgeoning property developments.

The film will be played on a loop on a giant wall of nine plasma screens on the Team Birmingham stand at the global property conference.

The showcase film has been produced by Aston Science Park-based company Mediascope, which provided most of Team Birmingham's audio-visual, web and printed materials.

Mediascope director James Muir said: "We heard the track "This Heart" through a friend John Hemming who runs Moseley Sound studios and he arranged for us to be able to use The Scholars' track.

"It is a really upbeat track and we think sets off perfectly the positive mood in Birmingham now and it complements the film's dramatic images of Birmingham developments."

The Scholars is made up of brothers Adrian and Christian Gillet and drummer Adam Clarke, aged 18. Adrian, aged 19, is a drama student in Birmingham, while Christian, aged 17, is preparing for A Levels and Adam is studying sports science. Adrian provides bass guitar, keyboards and vocals with brother Christian on electric and acoustic guitars and backing vocals.

Father Paul Gillet, who manages the band, said: "We think the boys have a really bright future and we are delighted one of their tracks will be played to so many people at a global event like MIPIM.

"Their influences include Birmingham band Editors, Interpol, Kasabian and Muse. Hopefully this can be one step towards a recording contract with a major label."
