Don McLean said he has never been one for shying away from his hits: “I don’t have that many to miss!” he joked.
How wrong he is. The 67-year-old delivered 20 songs in an hour and 40 minutes, with American Pie taking 17 of those minutes.
McLean began with three Buddy Holly songs: Well All Right, which he blends into Peggy Sue Got Married, then Everyday, which he enjoyed chart success with in 1973.
After his 1983 offering It’s Just The Sun it was time for the beautiful And I Love You So. Castles In The Air, Crossroads, Singing The Blues, Tulsa Time, Superman’s Ghost, and Homelesss Brother all passed with barely a pause for breath.
The night ended with his 1980 hit Crying, before Vincent – arguably his finest piece of work.
