Legendary Birmingham band Dexys Midnight Runners are to release a new album in the summer - although the name of the band has been officially shortened to Dexys.

Kevin Rowland still leads the outfit and the new album, titled "One Day I'm Going To Soar", is due for release on June 4.

The band's last album release was 1985's Don't Stand Me Down, following on from the huge selling "Too-Rye-Ay" in 1982 and their debut long player "Searching For The Young Soul Rebels" in 1980.

But a message on the band's Facebook page firmly states: "In the past there was Dexys Midnight Runners, now there is Dexys. The new album is a Dexys album, not DMR."

Former bass player Pete Williams launches his debut solo album "See" at the Glee Club in Birmingham next week, on February 21.
