Matthew Boulton brought prosperity and industry to Birmingham and is now the object of new industry himself as the bicentenary of his death in 1809 is celebrated.

This was a light-hearted evening of music that he was known to have enjoyed, interspersed with selections from his papers held at Birmingham Central Library.

Playing from contemporary facsimile parts, the CBSO Baroque Ensemble had a selection of music to play as diverse as the readings and they seized their opportunities to impress and beguile.
