Florence Welch may have missed out on a Mercury Prize but she certainly had no problems winning over the Birmingham audience in a fit-to-bursting Academy.

Kicking off with a rocky Kiss with a Fist, Florence and the Machine pretty much played their entire debut album Lungs with an occasional B-side thrown in for good measure.

Things quietened down after a mini acoustic segue with I’m Not Calling You a Liar and Hurricane Drunk before coming back with the banshee-like Howl.

But it was really the hits the audience were there for and Dog Days Are Over and Drumming Song met with cheers and claps.

Florence, who has been known to be a little eccentric on stage, was quite static at the Academy. A 75-minute set was brought to a fitting finale with an encore featuring cover You’ve Got The Love and Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up).
