Budding performers at Hagley Primary School will renew a fruitful relationship with leading chamber choir Ex Cathedra later this month.
The choir’s resident vocal tutors will help the children stage their own concert on Wednesday April 29 as part of Hagley’s five-day Music Festival.
Ex Cathedra, renowned in the Midlands for their high-quality musical education, will introduce the choir, consisting of around 80 children from Years 4, 5 and 6, to their nationally-acclaimed Singing Playgrounds project with a full programme of vocal workshops. The day will culminate in an evening concert for parents and friends at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, in the grounds of Hagley Hall. Tickets cost £7.50.
Ex Cathedra’s visit during the last Hagley Music Festival, two years ago, achieved great success with several of the children auditioning for and joining the Junior Academy of Ex Cathedra.
Since then, the children have enjoyed several high-profile performance opportunities, including Birmingham’s Artsfest, the Education Showcase at Symphony Hall and with Birmingham Royal Ballet in the snowflake scene of The Nutcracker at Birmingham Hippodrome.
Victoria Green, education manager of Ex Cathedra, said: “The pupils from Hagley Primary School have had a significant impact on the landscape of our youth choirs.”
