The first images of Alton Towers Resort's new Dungeon attraction have been released and it looks even scarier than we thought!

The Alton Towers Dungeon is the theme parks latest addition to the park and guests will experience live shows and a scary boat ride.

It promises a hilariously hideous journey through Staffordshire's darkest history.

In total it'll last 45 minutes so families and thrill seekers will really get their money's worth!

Alton Towers Dungeon will open on March 23, 2019 - the same weekend the park opens for the 2019 season.

The new dungeon attraction will be situated next to the Towers and replaces The Charlie and Chocolate Factory ride which closed in 2015.

Parts of the former children's ride was auctioned off on eBay last week and raised over £10,700 for charity.

All the money raised from the auction will be split between two charities - Merlin’s Magic Wand , a children's charity that supports children facing challenges of serious illness, disability or adversity, and Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity that funds Roald Dahl Specialist Children's Nurses in communities across the UK.

The final bids saw an Oompa Lumpa go for a whopping £1,000, followed by a giant chocolate covered Augustus Gloop raising £620.

The entrance signage was also in high demand and raised £510.

Kate McBirnie headed up the auction at Alton Towers Resort, she said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the success of the auction and overwhelmed by the interest the ride memorabilia attracted.

"It’s such a unique array of fun and quirky items. We are now really looking forward to learning about where the items will go to and be homed from the winning bidders.

Stargazer pods at Alton Towers

“We are now full speed ahead for the opening of our 2019 season and the opening of the new Dungeon in just a few weeks’ time.

"This will soon be followed by the opening of our Stargazing Pods in April, so it’s an incredibly exciting time for the theme park and this has been a great way to kick off the year. ”
