Arguably Britain's best-loved Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman knew no greater pleasure than 'church-crawling'.
He visited Worcester on more than one occasion, describing Huntingdon Hall as " a Georgian gem . . . unique and irreplaceable."
Appropriately, Huntingdon Hall is the venue for the eagerly-awaited presentation by Paul Vaughan and friends of John Betjeman - A Poetic Journey in Words and Music.
Paul Vaughan is joined in this celebration of the Poet Laureate who was described by The Times as 'the nation's Teddy Bear', by organist David Harrison and Raymond Fowler, who takes the role of the Parish Clerk.
This specially-adapted tribute will include, among a full programme of poetic gems, On Pershore Station, extracts from Summoned By Bells, the evergreen Diary of a Church Mouse and the jingoistic wartime-based In Westminster Abbey.
This performance is in support of the Worcester Three Choirs Festival, which runs from Saturday 6th - Sunday 14th August 2005.
This year's Festival features a stunning range of orchestras, choirs and soloists from across the globe. In addition to an exciting variety of classical and choral events, there are fascinating lectures and a range of latenight concerts which feature gospel and jazz. With the traditional Festival Fireworks, there is an event to suit all tastes.
A Poetic Journey in Words and Music is on Saturday June 18 at 7.30pm (tickets £9.00, concessions £8.00).
