Wolverhampton musician Goldie has put his own special spin on his paintings of 12 British athletes who are aiming for glory at London 2012.
Olympic sprint cycling champion Victoria Pendleton, 2009 World Champion triple-jumper Phillips Idowu, 2010 diving World Champion Tom Daley plus heptathlete Jessica Ennis are among those who have been given the Goldie treatment.
Some of the other athletes that were also painted include three-time World Champion track cyclist Shanaze Reade, javelin thrower Goldie Sayers, weightlifter Zoe Smith and high-jumper Tom Parsons. The works will be unveiled at a special London exhibition in association with Adidas next month.
Goldie, who was a prolific graffiti artist before making his name as a musician, said of the athletes: “It’s them against their sport.
“What’s great is that I can put my spin on that and show all the dynamics of this idea in a range of colourful paintings.
“These are 12 of the fantastic athletes who will be hugely inspirational to audiences in the UK and the world.” The Goldie
Athleticizm exhibition at London’s Underdog Gallery runs from October 28 to November 3.
