Birmingham’s Southside district is aiming to spread Christmas cheer to visitors with an array of festivities - including some sweet moments with Santa himself.

On December 7 and 8, and again on December 21 and 22, Santa will be welcoming visitors with some seasonal sweeties from Mr Chill’s Traditional Sweet Emporium during what’s being billed as the Southside Southpole weekends.

Visitors to the district will have the chance to pose with friends and family in festive cut-out boards under the Christmas tree.

On the Sundays of December 1 and 8, you can enjoy traditional Christmas crafts at Birmingham’s historic Back to Backs, including a wreath-making workshop. There will be an evening of carols in the candlelit courtyard on Saturday, December 14.

Southside includes the theatre district, and there’s plenty of festive offerings on stage including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Birmingham Hippodrome starring John Partridge as the handsome Prince, Gok Wan as the Man in the Mirror and Gary Wilmot as the pantomime Dame, from Thursday, December 19, until February 2, 2014.

The Old Rep Theatre will be home to Birmingham Stage Company’s Christmas production of Tom’s Midnight Garden from November 13, 2013, until January 25, 2014. When the grandfather clock in the hall chimes thirteen times, Tom is transported to a secret garden from the past and taken on a magical adventure.

In addition, festive favourites including A Wonderful Life and White Christmas will be playing at The Electric Cinema throughout the season.

Julia Chance, Southside BID manager, said: "There is something for everyone in Southside this Christmas and we’re excited to be celebrating the season with some great activities across our venues and our Southside Southpole weekends throughout December."
