Birmingham City Council is in line to net at least £5 million by selling a car park at the National Exhibition Centre.

The three-acre site next to Birmingham International Station will be turned into a 65 , 000 sq ft office development.

The sale of a 150-year lease on the land is expected to be approved by the council cabinet on Monday.

A report to the cabinet by Clive Dutton, council director of planning and regeneration, says that the NEC Group is confident it can provide replacement parking spaces.

Outline planning permission for a three-storey office block has been granted by Solihull Borough Council.

Ken Hardeman, Birmingham, cabinet member for regeneration, said cash from the sale would swell council funds. "This is part of an ongoing process of maximising the assets we have in the best interests of council taxpayers," he said.
