Science fiction thriller Moon took has taken top prize at the prestigious British Independent Film Awards.

Duncan Jones' moving account of space worker Sam Bell's lonely stint on a lunar base impressed the judges enough to snatch the award for Best British Independent Film.

There was further success for Moon when Jones was crowned winner of The Douglas Hickox Award for best debut director.

Jones is the son of music legend David Bowie.
His father's eccentric tastes were evident when naming his child - one of the director's middle names is Zowie.
