An attempt will be made to set a new world record for the largest gathering of zombies in Herefordshire.

Revellers at the Big Chill festival, near Malvern, have been encouraged to turn up resembling the undead for the shooting of a key scene in a futuristic film called I Spit On Your Rave.

At the same time the festival organisers are hoping to smash the record for the largest "zombie walk" which was set last month when 3,894 gory participants congregated in Seattle.

Comedian Noel Fielding, star of The Mighty Boosh, will take part in the attempt as he is playing the role of the Zombie King in the forthcoming Film4 and Warp Films' production. The film is set nine years in the future with mankind extinct after a virus is released at the 2012 Olympics.

Festival-goers have been asked to turn up on site at Eastnor Castle Deer Park in full make-up but there will be "zombification stations" on hand for anyone without a ghostly complexion and fake blood on their face.

The horror theme will continue long into the evening after filming with an all-nighter of classic zombie films. Other attractions over the course of the four-day festival include Basement Jaxx, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, Spiritualized and Orbital.
