Here is a curious animation – a Spanish-Argentinian co-production which mentions Accrington Stanley.

That’s not because the filmmakers would have been experts on the A-Z of unlikely sounding British football teams, but an indication that this has been re-voiced for English markets.

The effect, of course, is to make the lips more out of sync than animations usually are, but at least it negates the need to read the subtitles for the Argentinian equivalent of Accy Stanley.

Directed by Juan José Campanella, the story has several false starts, including apes illustrating the primeval need that mankind has always wanted to kick a ball.

Eventually we are at a table football game (here called Foosball) where the players spring to life themselves.

The story isn’t much to write home about.

But when this animation is at its best – following the ball in a way that traditional forms of cinema have always struggled with – it’s visually brilliant and children aged to five to eight will stay with it.
