Film and TV actor Warwick Davis makes his theatre debut in this hilarious war-time farce.

The Life’s Too Short star appears as hapless vicar Rev Lionel Toop in this production from his newly-formed Reduced Height Theatre Company.

The comedy classic, written by Philip King during the dark days of the Second World War to offer some relief to theatre goers, has all the elements a good farce needs to be a success - cases of mistaken identity, plenty of physical comedy and great timing.

And this strong cast certainly delivered. They bounded around the stage displaying tremendous energy and impeccable comic delivery, generating plenty of laughs.

There was an air of rising tension as the story unfolded, reaching a fabulous climax where it appeared a gang of clergymen were chasing each other round and round the set.

Francesca Mills was excellent as cheeky maid Ida as was Rachel Denning as unconventional vicar’s wife Penelope and Francesca Papagno as pompous Miss Skillon.

But it was Davis the audience had come to see. The actor earned himself a round of applause as he appeared on stage - before he even uttered his first line.

Whether the Reduced Height Theatre Company, which Davis set up to provide roles for short actors with no reference to their size, would attract the same attention without him is another matter.

But what was abundantly clear is that this company delivered a flawless performance, prompting outbursts of laughter from an engaged audience, ultimately proving that size really doesn’t matter.
