Sandwell Council has announced a multi-million pound plan to transform its ageing tower blocks.

Alfred Gunn House in Langley, which was built in 1962, is to be refurbished inside and out with a possible 14 new flats added.

The work is part of a £52m project to improve more than a dozen high-rise blocks in the Sandwell area.

The authority has also earmarked improvements for Darley House, Moorlands Court, St Giles Court, Addenbrooke Court and Wesley Court in Rowley, and Heronville House, Paget House and Wyrley House in Oldbury as well as four sites in West Bromwich.

The refurbishment of Alfred Gunn House will cost £11.8m including new flats on the roof, ground floor areas and new lifts.

The building is made up of three interlinked blocks and currently has 120 units of which 57 are three-bedroomed, which will be scaled down to two bedrooms to make them more attractive to tenants.

The plans will now go to cabinet for formal approval on Wednesday (November 14).
