Peacocks have not paid their rent at a retail unit in Wales since March according to the owners of a shopping park.

The Cardiff based retail giant was put into administration last Thursday after a two-week deadline to find a buyer passed.

Thousands of UK jobs have been put in peril at hundreds of stores around the UK.

Today the owner of Cross Hands Retail Park near Llanelli revealed Peacocks had not paid rent on their unit since the pandemic hit in March this year.

Conygar Investment group reported it as part of their annual results.

Business Live has asked administrator FRP Advisory and Peacocks parent company, the Edinburgh Woollen Mill, to comment.

The administrators were asked if Peacocks were behind on rents to landlords at other stores.

Conygar said: "At Cross Hands we have collected 81% of the rents due for the current quarter which increases to 86% for the Group as a whole.

"Of the remainder, 5% have moved to monthly payments, which are expected to be received in full by the end of the year, and 9% have been provided for in these financial statements where, as a result of Covid-19, Peacocks Stores Limited have not paid their rent since March 2020."

They added: "As a result of the impact of Covid-19, the directors have provided for rental and other arrears due from Peacocks Stores Limited amounting to £49,000 at 30 September 2020 and which remain outstanding at the date of signing these financial statements.

"A further £49,000 of accrued rent, in connection with a rent spreading adjustment for the income receivable from Peacocks Stores Limited, has also been written back at the balance sheet date."

Peacocks has 4,369 staff across 423 stores, which continue to trade.

Conygar said due to the pandemic they had seen £1.7 million reduction in the value of Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire - from £18.3 million to £16.5 million.

A spokesman for FRP said they were not in a position to comment but that details regarding creditors will be published as part of the Joint Administrators’ proposals.
