A councillor has been charged with a hate crime after complaints he insulted a political opponent.
Bob Piper, the Labour member for Sandwell Council's Abbey ward, will now appear before Walsall Magistrates' Court in January.
Police launched the investigation after an incident with a candidate of the For Britain party at a pub in Oldbury in July.
For Britain has been described as far right and campaigns on an anti-Islam platform.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Robert Piper, aged 71, of Barclay Road, Bearwood, has been postal charged with two counts of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress by the use of words or writing on July 18 this year.
"He will appear before Walsall Magistrates Court on January 16, 2019."
