A Sutton Coldfield secondary school has unveiled plans for a £20 million rebuild programme that is due to begin in August.

Plantsbrook School , in Upper Holland Road, will be completely rebuilt as part of £190 million of private finance initiative (PFI) funding for eight Midlands schools.

Work is expected to start at the ageing buildings in August of this year and the school is set to fully open by August 2017.

The rebuild of the school was announced late last year part of a PFI funded project involving construction firm Carillion and finance firm Equitix.

Planning permission will be sought in March this year, with work anticipated to start during the school summer holidays.

The main building will take 18 months to construct and students will be taught in temporary classrooms constructed on one of the playgrounds.
