Birmingham MP Jess Phillips has mocked a foul-mouthed UKIP candidate after he described her as "a massive bitch".

Carl Benjamin, also known as Sargon of Akkadd, made the comment at the official press conference to launch UKIP's European election campaign.

He was on stage with UKIP leader Gerard Batten.

Mr Benjamin was asked by Sky News reporter Kate McCann about his behaviour in May 2016, when he sent a sick Twitter message to Ms Phillips, Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, telling her: "I wouldn't even rape you".

Asked to justify this, he told the press conference Ms Phillips was being "a massive bitch."

Mr Batten then added: "I don't condone a joke or a remark made by somebody three years ago on Twitter,.

"Now if you held everybody to account for every remark they've ever made in their life which was stupid, un-thought out, uncondonable, there wouldn't be any journalists in this room, would there?"

Ms Phillips dismissed the comment, saying on Twitter: "Massive bitch aka feminist woman you can't control. Diddums."

Also on the stage was UKIP activist Mark Meechan, known online as Count Dankula, who was convicted and fined £800 after posting a YouTube video showing his girlfriend's dog performing a Nazi-style salute.

The pug dog responded with a salute to statements such as "gas the Jews" and "Seig Heil."

UKIP won 26% of the vote in the 2014 European elections in the UK, more than any other party. However, it is expected to struggle this time, partly because former leader Nigel Farage has now formed a new Brexit Party which is also standing in the European elections.
