Organisers of this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run are predicting it will be the biggest ever in the half marathon’s seven-year history.

A total of 17,000 runners have already signed up for the 13.1 mile run on October 19, including a record number of entries for both the Business Challenge and Junior and Mini races.

Organisers hope to beat the record 20,000 runners who took part in the 2013 run, which reached capacity a week before the event.

David Hart, communications director for the run, said: “There is still time to join in the fun, but following the success of the Bupa Great North Run we have seen a noticeable surge in entry levels over the last few days.”

The Bupa Great Birmingham Run is the second biggest half marathon in the UK.
