Meriden is one of the Conservatives’ safest seat in this region, according to bookies, with Caroline Spelman heavily odds-on to remain.

It has been a Tory seat since 1979 and former Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Ms Spelman is 100/1 on at Ladbrokes to secure it for another period.

Ms Spelman secured almost 52 per cent of the vote in 2010, with Labour winning less than half that amount.

This time, UKIP is considered the second most likely by bookies, with Ladbrokes making candidate Phil Henrick a 14/1 chance of success.

Labour candidate Tom McNeil is considered a 66/1 outsider while the Liberal Democrats are 100/1. The Green Party has placed Alison Gavin to stand as a candidate for the seat.

All odds are subject to change and were correct at the time this story was written.
