The American comedian is putting a big collection of cars up for auction on 11 March. The venue will be the Gooding & Co’s Amelia Island auction in Florida, but some of the cars were shown at the Scottdale sale in January to give an idea of what will be on offer.

Nearly all of them are Porsches, with estimates ranging from $200,000 for a 1966 Porsche 911, up to $5-7m for a 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder.

One of the stars of the show, which was shown at Scottdale, is a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder. Despite it being 50 years old, it’s only had three owners and done 10,500 miles since new. Seinfeld has owned it since 2007 and it’s in remarkably original and ‘patinated’ condition. Estimates are in the area of $5-6m.

Sporting highlights, apart from the Can-Am Spyder, include a 1990 962C, which competed with Joest Racing in the 1990 FIA World Sports-Prototype Championship. This podium-placed racer is estimated to go for $1.5-2m.

Of course, if your budget is a little lower, there is a 1964 Volkswagen camper van in the collection, estimated at around $80,000.

This important collection will draw plenty of interest, and should leave Jerry Seinfeld laughing all the way to the bank.
