The Warwickshire Academy team have experienced a tough start to their tour of South Africa.

Warwickshire lost their opening match against a strong Western Province Academy side by seven wickets, though there were encouraging performances from the tourists' senior players with Navdeep Poonia scoring 64 and Tim Groenewald 43.

Warwickshire won the second match, defeating Northern Suburbs by two wickets with 14-year-old left-arm swing bowler Paul Best taking four for 15 and right-arm fast bowler Chris Woakes four for 32. James Ord (87) and Mark Lewis (41) then ensured victory with an over in hand.

In the third match, Warwickshire's young side was overwhelmed by another strong Western Province unit who rattled up around 350 in their 50 overs before dismissing the tourists for little more than 100.

Today the Academy side take on an Under-17 side.
