A jury trying a student accused of mugging footballer Dwight Yorke of his diamond-studded watch has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

Rizvi Abbas, (24), of Merlin Close, Edgware, north London, allegedly helped attack the Birmingham City striker in the toilets of Mayfair nightclub Funky Buddah.

But he told London's Southwark Crown Court he was an innocent bystander during the incident on June 30 last year.

Godfrey Kessie of Wood Green, north London, found to have the £36,000 designer watch in his pocket, admitted the robbery. He is due to be sentenced on Friday when the prosecution will announce whether it is to seek a retrial against Abbas.
