Dear Editor, Our MPs are on holiday. What do you consider should be their first priority when they return?
I think it should be to open negotiations to change our full membership of the EU to associate membership, like Norway and Switzerland.
This would relieve us from the £40 million per day we now pay to Brussels and we could retrieve what is left of our fishing grounds and North Sea oil and gas which Edward Heath gave to Europe.
It would also mean stopping the torrent of legislation coming from Brussels which bypasses Parliament and our MPs could make our laws for us once again (now 75 per cent of laws come from Brussels).
Associate membership would give us the free trade area Ted Heath told us we were joining.
They’d better hurry up as once the Lisbon Treaty is finalised we could not get out without the consent of all the other member states which is most unlikely.
The door to the freedom many of us fought for is closing.
Coun Peter Hollingworth,
