A Worcestershire school has closed for 48 hours after pupils and staff fell ill in a suspected norovirus outbreak.

Bayton Primary School, near Bewdley, was closed yesterday after advice from the Health Protection Agency.

A total of 36 pupils were ill on Monday with more sick but unable to go home.

Some of them appeared to have the bug, traditionally known as winter vomiting disease, while others had flu-like symptoms.

The news comes just days after visitors were banned from the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and the Worcestershire Royal after an outbreak of norovirus.

At least one ward at Kidderminster Minor Injuries unit was also closed.

Bayton Primary School is expected to reopen tomorrow.
