Wolverhampton Wanderers have distanced themselves from speculation linking Carl Cort with newly-promoted Wigan Athletic.
Just a day after it appeared that another promoted Premiership side, Sunderland, had ended their interest in Kenny Miller following the rejection of a £1.2 million bid, Wigan have been linked with a similarlypriced move for his strike partner.
But, unlike in the case of Miller, Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey insists that no bids have been received for Cort.
"It's speculation," said Moxey. "We have not received any offers and Carl is very much part of our plans for the coming season."
Wigan boss Paul Jewell, who was also linked with Fulham-bound Heidar Helguson and Brett Ormerod, has refused to comment on the speculation.
As for Miller, the unsettled Scotland striker has made it clear that he was keen on a move to Wearside, even though it now looks likely that he will have to wait until his contract at Molineux ends in 12 months' time.
"It's just personal reasons why I would like to go to Sunderland," said Miller. "It is because I want to move closer to home.
"But if nothing comes of it, then I will be more than happy to stay at Wolves for another year and would do everything I could to help the club get back into the Premier League."
Meanwhile, Walsall have brought forward kick-off times for two home fixtures for the upcoming season. Home matches against Swindon Town on September 3 and MK Dons on October 8 will now both kick off at 1 pm, to avoid a clash with England World Cup qualifying matches against Wales and Austria, respectively.
Paul Merson's difficult preseason took a turn for the worse with the news that Matty Fryatt has been called up by England's Under-19 European Championship side, having initially been named on stand by.
Fryatt's call-up leaves the Saddlers with just one senior striker, Jorge Leitao, for their preseason campaign.
Saddler's fans can look forward to seeing Premiership opposition at the Bescott Stadium as part of their team's warm-up programme.
Manchester United will send a select team for a fixture arranged on Saturday July 30 (3 pm).
This will be followed by what is sure to be a keenlyfought fixture against Aston Villa on Tuesday August 2 (7.45 pm).
