Wolverhampton Wanderers offered a glimmer of light amid the gloom enveloping Molineux after sharing four goals with Tran-mere Rovers at Prenton Park last night, writes Ian Clarkson.

After Saturday's limp performance at Burton Albion, they showed far more attacking intent but were pegged back on two occasions.

Denes Rosa gave them the lead inside five minutes after good work by Tomas Frankowski and Hungarian trialist Balasz Molnar.

Chris Greeancre levelled only for Carl Cort to restore Wolves' lead nine minutes after the break.

Jason McAteer's deflected free kick six minutes from time, however, ensured parity was restored.

Paul Ince, who did not play, is the latest candidate to be interviewed for the vacant Wolves managerial post.

The midfielder was one of a dozen names shortlisted by Jez Moxey and the chief executive knows it is an appointment he cannot afford to get wrong.

Glenn Hoddle's unsuccessful reign resulted in disenchanted supporters venting their spleen during the 1-0 defeat to Burton.

While Ince is in the process of acquiring his Uefa 'B' Licence and an outsider, his robust style has made him a firm favourite with supporters. He said: "I was very pleased when I was asked by the chairman (Rick Hayward) to come and meet them (the board) and discuss my ideas.

"I have captained the club for four years and would love to take over as manager. I was extremely honest with them as regards to what I think needs to be done on the playing side. I want to thank the fans for all their support and I hope to hear from the club soon."

Other options include Stuart Gray or appointing a proven Championship manager such as Burnley's Steve Cotterill with a compensation package in the region of £350,000. Caretaker manager Gray has released Brazilian trialist Jeronimo Soares but has extended the trial of compatriot Guilhermo Finkler until next week.
