A body has been found in a park in Worcester, police have revealed.
West Mercia police have now launched a witness appeal following the discovery of the body in Gheluvelt Park park yesterday morning.
The body of a man, who has not been identified, was found at 5.09am and the park has been taped off while officers thoroughly search the area.
Detective Superintendent Steve Cullen is leading the investigation and has appealed for anyone with any information on the incident to contact police.
He said: “We would like to hear from anyone who heard or saw any kind of disturbance late Tuesday night or in the early hours of yesterday morning in and around the Gheluvelt Park.
“Anyone who has any information on any suspicious activity in the area during the times given is urged to call us on 0300 333 3000 quoting 63/S/150709.”
Gheluvelt Park is likely to remain closed until Friday while police investigations continue.
Det Supt Cullen added: “The park will remain closed to the public until officers have completed a thorough search.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their co-operation with this and I would like to assure those that use the park that it will be re-opened as soon as possible.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident and is being treated as an unexplained death.”
A post mortem examination is set to take place today.
