New Conservative leader David Cameron today appointed David Willetts to succeed him as shadow education secretary.

Mr Willetts's appointment was the first to emerge as Mr Cameron continued reshuffling the shadow cabinet for a second day.

The Havant MP - a former pupil of King Edward's School in Birmingham - dubbed "two brains" at Westminster, had been shadow trade secretary since the general election.
