Private home owners have accused the council of “sharp practice” [Birmingham U-turn on plans to close council care homes hits private sector, Post, Feb 25].

“The saving to the public purse would have been dramatic”, according to Mike Gimson, chairman of the Moundsley Healthcare Group.

Fees of £615 a week in the private sector were mentioned, so as residents currently pay £500 a week in council homes their savings would be depleted at a rate of a further £115 a week.
