The Wheel of Birmingham is set to grace the city's skyline until next year.

The 60-metre tall attraction in Centenary Square is set to become a more permanent feature in the night sky after an agreement between owners World Tourist Attractions (WTA) and Birmingham City Council.

The deal was signed and passed by Birmingham City Council's Planning Committee and means that the 42-gondola wheel is to remain until February 2006.

Jonathan Shipley, director of WTA, said: "It is clear that the people of Birmingham have a natural affinity with this fantastic attraction."
