Luke Moore and Robert Koren grabbed first-half goals as Albion cruised to a comfortable pre-season win at Shrewsbury.
The Baggies dominated for long periods against the League Two opponents, who had keeper Andreas Aresidou to thank for keeping the score down.
Jonas Olsson went close to opening the scoring for the visitors. A fifth-minute corner was taken quickly by Koren to Jon Greening. The Albion skipper curled in a cross which Olsson raced on to head. The ball struck the bar and was hacked away by Kelvin Langmead just as it was about to cross the line.
It was Moore who converted the opener, his second of the pre-season campaign. Picking up the ball on the edge of the area, the ex-Villa man struck a low shot to beat Aresidou.
Just after the half-hour mark Koren doubled the score, albeit with a touch of good fortune. Chris Brunt raced into space to strike a volley. The shot was heading wide but fell conveniently into Koren’s path for the Slovenian to convert.
Beattie went close to a third on 50 minutes when he knocked the ball past Graham Coughlan but smashed his close range angled shot against Arestidou.
And Chris Wood almost scored his maiden first-team goal in the 82nd minute but drove Dwayne Samuels’ cross wide of the Shrewsbury goal before seeing another effort sail just wide moments later.
