The manager of a Midland bar who advertised a fish dish as 'wife battered cod' has apologised.

The Lansdown Bar ran the advert for two weeks before receiving complaints. Staff at the popular bar named the dish because the fish is cooked in Stella Artois lager, nicknamed ?wife beater?.

But the Lansdown, in Cheltenham, started to attract criticism after an upset diner contacted a domestic violence group.

Sue Portlock, organiser of the Gloucester Domestic Violence Support Group, said: ? Their actions have completely minimised the terror felt by victims of abuse.?
