A prominent Welsh MP was left needing hospital treatment after he was set upon by a gang of youths as he delivered presents to his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.
Adam Price MP, who represents Plaid Cymru, was attacked at 5pm on Saturday as he delivered presents to the party in Worcester, his spokeswoman Heledd Fychan said.
She added that he was attacked by three boys and a girl and was left needing stitches to cuts to his face. He was unable to attend the party as he was in hospital receiving treatment.
Miss Fychan said: “A gang of youths set upon him randomly. They had no idea who he was. It was an unprovoked, random attack and he then had to go to hospital and receive treatment for cuts to his face.
“He is a bit battered and bruised and he has a black eye. It seems very strange but he is leaving it in the hands of the police now.”
Mr Price, who is MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, is now recovering at home.
Miss Fychan added that none of the presents were stolen and no weapons were used during the attack. She said she understood that four people have since been arrested by police.
Mr Price, 40, often speaks for Plaid Cymru on trade and industry issues. He was elected to Parliament in 2001.
