The firm which ran the shamed care home in Bristol where vulnerable residents were secretly filmed being slapped and doused with cold water is to close another home it runs in Solihull.

Castlebeck Care will close Arden Vale, which caters for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems by August 25.

It comes after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) served a legal notice proposing to remove Arden Vale from the company’s registration, meaning it would not be able to provide care there.

It is the third Castlebeck closure of a service run by Castlebeck, which was in charge of the Winterbourne View, in Bristol.

Twelve people were arrested after an undercover reporter filmed abuse of residents with learning disabilities. Winterbourne View and Rose Villa, another care home in Bristol, where four employees were suspended over misconduct claims, have both since closed.

The CQC said the council and health chiefs were finding Arden residents alternative accommodation.

Andrea Gordon, CQC’s regional director, said: “The CQC raised serious concerns about care provided at Arden Vale and demanded improvements. When we did not see evidence of these improvements, we took action to protect people by initiating the legal process required to close a service.”

Inspectors made three unannounced inspections on Arden Vale in June and voiced major concerns with 12 of the 16 essential standards including inappropriate use of restraint and the welfare of patients.
