Warwickshire Police have pledged to take firm action against anyone involved in disorder while watching this summer's World Cup in the county's clubs and bars.

The force said its had experienced very little trouble during previous tournaments involving the England national side and expected fans to take a similarly mature approach during matches in South Africa.

But officers have drawn up a policing plan to deter unacceptable behaviour and are urging fans to stay within the law while enjoying themselves.

Superintendent Martin Samuel said: "The vast majority of people are well behaved, have a sensible approach to alcohol and will leave the towns having had a good night out.

"But where any person attempts to cause trouble, officers will move swiftly to stop them."
