He may have spent the week grappling with important matters of state such as the tightening up of procedures for EU registered doctors but Warwickshire MP and health minister Mike O’Brien has still found time to weigh into the furore surrounding the sacking of John Terry as England captain.

On social networking site Twitter, the MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth took a more supportive tone than some of has colleagues for the errant Chelsea star by describing his sacking as “crass” and that manager Fabio Capello had “bowed to tabloid pressure”.

Mr O’Brien has taken a different tack from Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who said: “This decision must be for the manager and Mr Capello has made that decision. I think people will abide by that decision.”

Mr O’Brien’s comments read: “The sacking of Terry is crass.

“Capello has bowed to tabloid pressure.

“Infidelity is bad but I saw no signs of fatigue in his football.”
