Warwickshire ladies booked their place in the English County Finals with a magnificent victory to claim the Midlands South Division title during County Week at Ladbrook Park.
Warwickshire’s heady mix of mature experience and youthful exuberance swept all before them as they triumphed on each of the five days of competition, beating off strong competition from Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Worcester and Herefordshire to lift the Doris Abraham Trophy.
Warwickshire, facing neighbours Worcestershire & Herefordshire, shared the morning foursomes 1½-1½ after a torrential downpour forced play to be abandoned with some matches undecided.
In the afternoon singles, captain Bev Belcher opted to stay with a blend of experience and youth – Claire Howells, of Moor Hall, is in her 40s while Lauren Taylor (Rugby) and Ashley Crammond (The Warwickshire) are still early teenagers.
The decision paid off as Abbey Gittings (Walmley), Charlotte Dalton (Ladbrook Park), Lisa Barton (Coventry) and Howells all triumphed with Crammond earning an important half.
